Hi everyone, welcome to 2016 with Inishowen RC!

A big welcome to all our new and returning members, and to those who are still considering joining – you can join at anytime of the year, membership rates are 90e for Riding Members & 40e for Non-Riding Members – Contact Erica (Secretary)  for more details.

This year’s competition kicks off with the Northwest League which starts this Sunday at Templemore EC, Derry. This will be a 5 week league in the usually format.

NWL Dates Spring 2016:

Sunday 24th January

Sunday 7th/14th/28th February

Sunday 6th March (FINAL)

Week 3 of the Spring League will see a Master’s Series Qualifier take place, the final of which is held in Mullingar on March 20th. All riders in classes Intermediate and above will be eligible to qualify for this National Final, with the top 6 in each class clinching the qualifying places on the day.  Novelty classes will also run on the day. As decided at our meeting our club will hold a small Bake Sale at Templemore that day as we cannot attend the Coffee Morning that Jimmy is organising in memory of Orla…all proceeds will go to Donegal Young Carers, a group that meant so much to Orla. So, lots of time to get practicing the baking before then!

Above are some photos from last year’s NW Spring League.

Jacqui McPherson will be giving the first block of lessons this year (21st/28th January, 4th/11th February). They will be held in Templemore EC every Thursday, with two times available – 7-8pm, 8-9pm. Please book in with Jodie by the Monday before if you wish to attend.

The NW Spring League will keep us busy for the next few weeks, but as soon as that ends it’s on to the cross-country training in preparation for the National Hunter Trials in Flowerhill on April 10th.

After that we set our sights on the Audrey Jacobs Team Challenge, which will be held this year on the 24th April. This compromises of a day of teams competing for their clubs in both Dressage and Showjumping. Inishowen won the Cup in 2012, will 2016 be the year to bring it back home?

Last but not least, I would like to ask anyone who would be interested to write up a small piece about their horse along with some photos and we will begin a ‘Meet the Horses’ section on our website. Information like how you crossed paths with your four legged friend, age, how long you’ve had them, what you like to compete in etc etc. Star prize for the most interesting tale! If you have any photos of any riding club activities or other information that you would like posted on here, please email me; lmclaughlin047@gmail.com. Thanks!
